kA'RAMUU KUSH

Filmmaker kA’RAMUU KUSH is a native of Detroit and an AFI Directing fellow with eight years of experience as a filmmaker and 15 years as a writer/director/actor in theatre. With a passion for alchemy and a love for telling stories he has produced and directed six short films. His work as an actor and director has garnered international exposure in more than 20 film festivals including Cannes, Sundance, Hamptons, Tribeca and LA Film Festival. His adept understanding and application of the craft has been noted in Black Masks, American Theatre, Show Business Weekly, Backstage, and Amsterdam News, with his work being described as “ahead of its time in measure, tone and subject matter.” He has served as Associate Producer of the New Federal Theatre (New York), Founding Associate Director of the Schomburg Center Junior Scholars Program (New York), Associate Director of the Los Angeles Bridges Program at Audubon, Writing/Production Mentor with Inner City Filmmakers (Los Angeles), and most recently, founding Artistic Director of Califia Filmmakers Showcase (Los Angeles).

kA’RAMUU’s affiliations with legendary artists such as Woodie King, Jr., Robert Hooks, Ruby Dee, Dick Anthony Williams, Fred Hudson and Laurence Holder have prepared him to walk the fine line between cultural significance and commercial viability, which he does as the mastermind behind the film production company, The Black Op, LLC. A self proclaimed "throwback artist", he consciously works in the tradition of artists/activists who have had global humanitarian influence such as Akhenaten, John Lennon, Dr. Maya Angelou, Ossie Davis, Harry Belafonte, Sidney Poitier and Danny Glover.

kA'RAMUU holds a BA in Literature, Writing and The Arts from The New School University, an MFA in Classical Drama from Sarah Lawrence College and is currently a Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute, Los Angeles, pursuing an MFA in Directing.
